                                      My Patio
               I sit within your aged brick walls
                 secure from strident life;
                I see the tall and  lovely oaks
                  'way in the soft sunlight.
                 I hear the sound of chirping birds,
                   now near, now faraway;
                   theirs is the music of the air,
                    the symphony of the day.
                   The sun shines through the
                                   stirring  leaves,
                      the air is cool and sweet.
                      A yellow butterfly drifts by
                     to make the scene complete.
                    The sky, the trees, the  gentle
                                breeze,
                            I thank you all today;
                            you bring a message
                             to my heart
                            from those who have
                             gone away.

   The author of My Patio is Annette Davidson Foley, (1895-1988) my grandmother, shown above on Reunion Night, June 18th, 1915 in West Union, Ohio.

   Her mother, Anna May, was a school teacher. Samuel Davidson, her father, was an editor. The family, including her sister, Roberta, moved around much, and lived in many towns in the state of Ohio. Grandma said she learned how to meet and greet many people! Annette's grandfather, Dr. Davidson, founded Mercy Hospital near Portsmouth, Ohio, around 1880. This hospital was still being used in year 2000, when my mom went to visit.

    This site was created for language art students to express their feelings, ideas, hopes and dreams by publishing their own poetry.
